THE Kris Lees-trained filly Intrinsic makes its long-awaited second start on Saturday in Sydney after turning heads in its maiden win at Wyong.

The classy two-year-old makes its second career start in the TAB Handicap at Rosehill on Saturday as the $3.80 favourite at Crownbet.com.au.

The So You Think progeny was a stylish winner on debut at Wyong on May 16 and resumes at Rosehill after a short let up.

The filly’s trainer Kris Lees believes the horse is set for a big performance on Saturday despite the significant jump in class from Wyong to a city track.

“She is looking great and good to go,” Lees told HorseBetting.com.au.

“Obviously it’s a step up in class from a country race to a meet at Rosehill but she’s drawn an inside barrier which is important, especially for a two-year-old in her second start.

“She has a few things to correct from her last race but we are going in hopeful of a good run.”

The three-week break between runs raised the eyebrows of a few pundits following the ease in which the horse took out its maiden win, but Lees said a let up was always on the cards, regardless of the result.

“With these younger ones you sometimes have to give them a short let up to keep their mind on the job,” he said.

“We’ve given her the short let up and we’ll see how that pans out for her Saturday.”

Another big boost for Lees heading into Saturday’s race is the booking of star Sydney jockey Brenton Avdulla.

Lees believes Avdulla – who is currently the number one jockey in Sydney for wins in the 2016/17 season – is an absolute coup for Intrinsic as it chases its second career win in as many starts.

“Brenton is obviously a big plus for the horse,” the trainer said.

“He is close to the best jockey going around at the moment and can obviously have his pick of the horses in any field so for him to go with us is a massive bonus.

“Our stable always tries to get Brenton to partner with our horses.”

A win on Saturday would stamp the filly’s card as a must-follow horse, but that does not mean Lees does not see a bright future ahead for the two-year-old.

Never one to make bold predictions about horses in his stable, Lees was coy when asked about what may be coming for Intrinsic, but believes he has a quality filly on his hands.

“We think she’s a filly that has plenty of upside and we are confident she can go on with the job,” he said.

“We’ll see how we go on Saturday, but we think she’s got some progression in her.”
