I’m Thunderstruck Smashes Rivals At Flemington
I’m Thunderstruck bounced back from a third-placed finish at Caulfield on June 26 with a dominant four-length victory at Flemington on Saturday afternoon and in doing so showed why many hold him in such high regard.
Michael Kent, who was on course, spoke to Racing.com following the race and despite saying that he was not willing to make a race day decision regarding what he may get to during the Spring, it was clear he and Mick Price have big plans for yet another bright prospect for OTI Racing.
Kent went on to reveal that jockey Mark Zahra was of the belief that I’m Thunderstruck would eventuate into a top-class Group runner and with the Melbourne Spring Carnival just over a month away it is hard to imagine the Price and Kent stable would tip this guy out for a spell.
With connections looking to step him up to the mile, there is a plethora of Group races at 1600m during the Melbourne Spring Carnival. I’m Thunderstruck is certainly one to follow going forward into the Spring in some of the better races.
Aided by a perfect steer from Jamie Kah, the three-year-old son of Shocking put paid to his rivals in the home straight and despite doing plenty wrong over the last 300m, I’m Thunderstruck brought up his second win from three starts this campaign.
The ride from Jamie Kah could not have been any better, with Kah waiting until the last possible moment to ask for an effort, but when she did her mount quickly put a couple of lengths on his rivals despite laying in and won like an odds-on pop instead of the +320 on offer prior to the jump.
The win handed Jamie Kah a win in both of the first two races at Flemington, having rated Gonnadancealot perfectly out in front for the Robbie Griffiths and Matthew De Kock yard in the opener on Saturday.
