JUST when you thought getting a return on your bet was hard enough the great game throws up another reason for you to pull your hair out.

Last-start winner and well supported Dame Vassa firmed from an opening quote of $6.50 into $5.50 at online bookmaker BetEasy to extend the winning streak to two in Tuesday’s benchmark 58 contest at Hamilton.

Despite travelling on the speed and getting passed easily by eventual winner of race 6 Cheeky Reward, Dame Vassa held on late to claim second after looking gone for all money at the 100m.

Place backers would have been jumping for joy after the race given how unlikely a placing looked in the latter stages of the race.

About half an hour later however, the unthinkable happened.

Apprentice Michael Poy was found to be 1kg under the allotted riding weight for Dame Vassa, leading Racing Victoria Stewards to disqualify the horse from the race. Fortunately for Sportsbet clients, the online company elected to scratch the horse from the field.

For the record, Dame Vassa returned an even $2 with the online bookmakers prior to the disqualification.
