2020 Herbert Power Stakes betting preview
The Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes offers ballot exemption into next week’s Caulfield Cup, so it should be a hotly contested affair. A field of 11 has been assembled for the 2400m race, including defending champ The Chosen One, Naturalism winner Orderofthegarter and VRC Oaks winner Miami Bound. Orderofthegarter will start favourite and take up a prominent position in the run behind the likely leader, In Good Health.
We are with last year’s winner. The Baker & Forsman runner won in brilliant fashion first up at Flemington before showing his natural second-up syndrome last start behind Russian Camelot in the Underwood Stakes. Up to 2400m and on a likely wet track will suit the entire down to the ground. Michael Dee stays aboard and should get an economical run from barrier seven. This looks his chance to go back-to-back.
Orderofthegarter is by far the best winning chance on his day, but given he has already qualified for the Caulfield Cup, we sense this could be a final tune up and he might not necessarily be here to win. Damien Oliver does stay aboard, and from barrier four they’ll settle very close to the speed and be right in it. There’s no doubting he can win, but whether or not they really want to is the big question. It could be a case of being simply too good and he may well bolt in regardless.
In Good Health looks value here after putting in some career-best performances this prep. She won two on the trot before going down by only 1.5L in the Naturalism behind Orderofthegarter, Chapada and Steel Prince, so she has to be in the mix. From barrier two, Luke Nolen will more than likely lead and get a very soft time of it in front. There’s some good form around her last campaign and so far this prep, so she can win at a decent each-way price.
