Hear The Chant wins narrowly at Caulfield

Heart The Chant has bounced back from a luckless first-up run to claim her first stakes victory at Caulfield.

Giving connections of the Lindsay Park filly a stakes race double on Saturday, Hear The Chant got home by a short half-head over My Country in the Group Three Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m).

Hear The Chant won on debut at Sandown in June then had no luck in her return at Moonee Valley on September 23 in the Group Three Champagne Stakes when she was blocked for a run.

“I think I was quoted as saying it was the best last I’ve had for a long time,” co-trainer David Hayes said.

“Sometimes you run last and you’re shattered. And sometimes you run last and you’re frustrated. She just couldn’t jump over them the other day and Dwayne (Dunn) just eased her out of it.

“I thought if she got a fair crack at them she’d be pretty hard to beat today.”

Like Saturday’s Debutant Stakes-winning colt Wait For No One, Hear The Chant is a homebred for Peter Devitt and the Gordon family who have been long-time clients of the Hayes stable.
