Hawkesbury Best Bet – Naples

James Cummings and young-gun apprentice Dylan Gibbons combine in the opener with Naples, a three-year-old filly by Street Boss. Lining up in her 10th career start, she is looking to break her maiden status after being the runner-up on four occasions. Although somewhat frustrating for her loyal followers, Naples has contested some tricky maiden races, finishing behind the likes of Ashema, Yearning, Your Too Good and Roots. That form looks superior for a provincial maiden, while she should be fit enough to fire first-up on the back of two trials over 740m and 902m respectively. The 1100m looks her go for this assignment, while Hawkesbury has been kind to her in the past, having run second in her two starts here. Although drawn a touch awkwardly in barrier seven, this filly has shown some good speed out of the gates early, so we are expecting Gibbons to look for the one-one and have her right within striking distance of the leaders in the straight. This looks her race.

Best BetRace 1 – Naples (#1) $2.15 with Sportsbet

Next Best at Hawkesbury – Selhurst Park

Selhurst Park is in a very similar boat to Naples, resuming in an 1100m maiden. The three-year-old gelding also boasts some quality form as a two-year-old, which can take him a very long way in a race like this. The son of Not A Single Doubt made his debut as a $6 chance behind Ranch Hand at Warwick Farm in December 2020, before finishing in the placings at his next three starts at Wyong and Gosford. The Mark Newnham-trained galloper hasn’t raced since June, but he has been gelded in that time and won two trials at Randwick in January, so he should be ready to go. Joshua Parr has ridden him in all four starts and in his two trials, so it’s good to see him stick with him on Tuesday. From barrier six, Parr can take Selhurst Park straight to the front with the blinkers on and let him stride out to break his maiden at start five. He should justify favouritism.

Hawkesbury Value Bet – Vindication

We are confident that the no.1 saddle cloth will be in the winner’s stall in the first three races on Tuesday, with Vindication presenting some great value in the third at $7 with Sportsbet. The Jean Dubois-trained gelding has had only five starts, winning once on the Kensington track at Randwick in September. The son of Deep Field brings similar form to Naples to the races, coming out of the same maiden on August 4. In his final run for the preparation last spring, Vindication finished last in the Listed Heritage Stakes, eight lengths behind Home Affairs and Paulele, which is the strongest sprinting three-year-old form in the land. First-up off a winning trial, he led for most of the 1200m affair at Kembla Grange but ran into one a bit better than him in Rumpshaker, yet he stuck on gamely for second. Reece Jones will do the riding in this heat of the Rising Star – an apprentice jockey series. Vindication should lead from barrier eight and be incredibly hard to catch with 57.5kg on his back.

Best ValueRace 3 – Vindication (#1) $7 with Sportsbet
