Nine races are set to be run and won at Hawkesbury on Thursday, May 19, and HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst has picked out his best bets and quaddie numbers for the program. The track is currently rated a Soft 7, while the rail is out 3m from the 1100m to the 450m and then true for the remainder of the course. Racing is scheduled to get underway at 11:40am AEST.

Best Bet at Hawkesbury – Funambulist

Annabel Neasham and Ellen Hennessy combine in the second race of the afternoon with last-start winner Funambulist. The four-year-old gelding broke his maiden in fine style, ultimately leading all of the way at this track over 2000m to record a 5.25-length win. The son of New Bay rises slightly to 2100m and goes up only 0.5kg in weight to 57.5kg once Hennessy’s 2kg claim is taken into account. From barrier five, Funambulist will be in the first couple in the run and should once again prove too good.

Next Best at Hawkesbury – Queenmaker

We were with the Ed Cummings-trained Queenmaker last time out, and we thought we had the race sewn up after leading throughout. Unfortunately, she put in a few short strides at the business end and ran third, going down less than half a length. She rises somewhat significantly in trip on Thursday, going from 1300m to 1800m, but it should allow her to roll along in front and make this a bit of a staying test, which will certainly suit her given she is by Tavistock. This looks an ideal race for this three-year-old to win her maiden.

Best Value at Hawkesbury – Caboteur

David Payne and apprentice hoop Zac Lloyd combine in the penultimate race with Caboteur, a three-year-old gelding by So You Think. Having won just once from eight starts, this horse looks ready to win again as he is now fourth-up. In an interesting move by Payne, Caboteur is coming back to 1400m after racing over 1900m 15 days earlier, so we could see some daring tactics displayed by Lloyd on Thursday, with barrier two an ideal alley from which to go forward, lead and try to run the rest into the ground.
