When Tuesday, August 31, 2021
First Race 1:20pm AEST

Hawkesbury Race Club is scheduled to host a seven-part card on Tuesday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s New South Wales horse racing expert presents his best bets and quaddie numbers for the meeting. The track is rated a Soft 6 with the rail out 3m from the 1150m to the 450m mark and then true for the remainder of the course. Racing is set to start at 1:20pm AEST.

Hawkesbury Best Bet: Raging Bull

The David Payne-trained Raging Bull is set to resume over 1500m following a 10-week spell in what is arguably the easiest race he has faced yet. Having chased home promising duo Royalzel and Cape Breton in his initial campaign, the three-year-old Bull Point gelding will appreciate running in a maiden that looks to lack depth. He possesses a sharp turn of foot, and despite drawing barrier eight and needing to go back from the wide barrier, we anticipate Sam Clipperton will have him starting his run with 600m to go. If he can sustain the run first-up from a spell, Raging Bull should be simply too good for his rivals. This is one to follow going forward.

Next Best at Hawkesbury: Moralist

In the final race of the day, Matthew Smith and Hugh Bowman combined with seven-year-old Moralist, who found one better at Scone on August 24 having been left in front a long way out from home. From barrier one on Tuesday, Bowman will have him in the box seat throughout and should gain the most economical run in transit. With the short home straight at Hawkesbury, Bowman will simply need even luck at the top of the home straight. If he is afforded that luck and Moralist can reproduce a similar effort to what he did at Scone, he should be sending us home winners.

Hawkesbury Value Bet: Betcha Baby

We are siding with Hugh Bowman once more, this time when he pairs up with Chris Waller in the second leg of the quaddie on four-year-old Betcha Baby. The Starspangledbanner mare was beaten under a half-length over the Hawkesbury 1300m on August 19 in a blanket finish, and the $20 price is hard to ignore in what looks to be similar maiden. She has the early speed to overcome the tricky barrier (16), and if Bowman can get her across to the front of the field, we anticipate she will be too hard to run down in the concluding stages.
