HAMILTON racing is back this Friday as the popular country venue hosts an eight race card to finish off the working week.

It is the first Hamilton meeting for 2018 and we are expecting the club to kick the new year off with a bang.

Let’s get straight into the tips and see if we cannot find some winners to lead us into the weekend.

Race 1 – Maiden Plate (1400m)

Fire Ranger has finished fourth in its first two career starts and looks well placed to improve from there. The three-year-old son of Pluck looks suited to the 1400m journey and we think it can shake the maiden grade here.

Race 1 tip: Fire Ranger to win at Sportsbet

Race 2 – Maiden Plate (1400m)

Original Artist is third-up, where it has previously placed in the past. The horse only just missed out on winning upon resumption two starts back and we’re putting a line through its last-start failure at the ‘Bool. We think the horse is finally ready to step out of the grade at the eight time of asking.

Race 3 – Maiden Plate (1600m)

Bianzeda has been progressing well since debuting three starts back, culminating in a last-start second at Penola. It will need a slice of luck from barrier ten but we are adamant this horse is much better than it has been showcasing.

Race 4 – Class 1 (1400m)

That Said won brilliantly at Hamilton last-start and we think it can go on with the job here. The horse won by just shy of three lengths as a double figure outsider, and from the wide gate it will need to go forward, but we think it can win from that position.

Race 4 tip: That Said to win at Sportsbet

Race 5 – Benchmark 58 (1100m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1177774_05]

Soldier’s Image has been racing in great form recently. The horse has finished third in three of its last four events and is never too far away from the winner. From barrier five we’re expecting a strong performance indicative of how well it is traveling this preparation.

Race 5 tip: Soldier’s Image to win at William Hill

Race 6 – Benchmark 58 (1100m)

Cyclone Jess is expected to fire out of the gate and lead this race. The eight-year-old has not been in great form as of late but tactics suit here and we think Cyclone Jess can return to the winner’s stall here.

Race 6 tip: Cyclone Jess to win at Crownbet

Race 7 – Benchmark 58 (2200m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1177774_07]

Skilled Hunter has placed in three of its last four runs and it looks poised to continue. In a huge field the experience of racing around this grade and we think it has the ability to take out a tricky little affair in the penultimate.

Race 7 tip: Skilled Hunter to win at Crownbet

Race 8 – Benchmark 58 (1600m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1177774_08]

Peg Leg Ben has been racing well around this grade and looks like a genuine winning hope here. The horse finished second, just two parts of a length behind the winner at BM58 class last-time out which should be a good indicator of how well it can potentially go here.

Race 8 tip: Peg Leg Ben to win at William Hill
