Guizot lands his second straight victory

Wet-tracker Guizot has made it back-to-back wins for trainer Aaron Purcell in saluting at Caulfield.

Trainer Aaron Purcell will keep trying to pick off suitable races during the upcoming winter with Guizot after the gelding made it back-to-back wins at Caulfield.

Purcell targeted Guizot for a 1700m handicap on his home track during the recent three-day carnival at Warrnambool and after winning there, Saturday’s Ian Miller Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield presented as another attractive option.

Striking a suitable soft-rated track, the $2.60 favourite Guizot enjoyed the right run just off the pace before edging past his rivals on the outside in the straight to beat He Ekscels by three-quarters of a length.

Kazio was the same margin away third.

“His Warrnambool race was the plan,” Purcell said.

“This wasn’t. But he pulled up well after Warrnambool, we nominated him for this and when the acceptances and barrier draws came out it looked as though it was going to be run to suit.

“It looked like his class of race, he was well-weighted and the rain the last few days didn’t hurt at all.

“Jordan Childs rode him perfectly and it was an enjoyable race to watch.”

The Swan Hill Cup in June and Winter Championship are among the winter options for the six-year-old import who has won seven of his 39 starts.
