Rosehill racing tips

THE Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose is one of the early spring features in Sydney and 14 of the best three-year-olds line up this Saturday at Rosehill.

Menari, Pariah and Merchant Navy are the headline thoroughbreds in action, but the Golden Rose isn’t the only feature on the card this Saturday.

We have free tips, form and odds for the Golden Pendant, Gloaming Stakes, Shannon Stakes and every race on the quality betting card.

Race 1 – BM74 Handicap (1300m)

Paret couldn’t have been more impressive on debut when winning at Canterbury. The Chris Waller-trained three-year-old was only taking on midweek company, but it blasted past its rivals in the run to the line and it was mightily impressive. Hugh Bowman riding is a positive sign and this runner could be anything.

Beau Geste lost no admirers when running third behind Super Ex last start and its debut win was solid. The James Cummings-trained colt scored by two lengths over a capable field on debut and the son of Street Cry is bred to continue winning. It will get a good run from barrier four and be tough to beat.

Race 1 tip: Paret to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 2 – Colin Stephen Quality (2400m)

Alward was the subject of a betting drift last start and it ran accordingly. The Waller-trained stayer had won back-to-back races leading into the Rosehill run, but it had no turn of speed in the straight. Carrying a lighter weight will help here and the small field should also help settle the imported runner.

Broadside exerted its class over Auvray last start in the Newcastle Cup and it’s capable of repeating the dose. The former New Zealand runner will enjoy stepping up over more ground and despite rising well up in the weights, it has won and placed on this track and it has multiple wins on good, soft and heavy surfaces.

Race 2 tip: Broadside to win at Topbetta.com.au

Race 3 – Highway Handicap (1500m)

Don’t Give A Damn scored an easy win on debut at Goulburn before running a gallant second last start in the Highway Handicap. The Danny Williams-trained four-year-old ran the talented Suncraze to within a nose and that form is stellar for this. We’re expecting punters to hammer this runner in the early betting markets.

Majestic Pedrille has won and placed twice already this campaign and it has fitness on its side. The four-year-old mare won at Taree two starts back before running well in a tough race last start. This is another step up in class again, but it’s drawn to get the run and it could offer some each way value.

Race 4 – BM82 Handicap (2000m)

Quick Defence has won only three of its 28 starts, but it charged home late to win at Rosehill last start. The Waller-trained runner wasn’t expected to win in that fashion and it was the first time it had won or placed at the track. It’s capable of putting together another strong showing.

Up ‘n’ Rolling is just that, having won both starts this preparation. The stablemate to Quick Defence has looked impressive since coming from New Zealand and its last two wins have been very easy. It drops slightly in grade for this which is ideal and it won’t have a problem carrying the weight.

Race 4 tip: Up ‘n’ Rolling to win at Bet365.com

Race 5 – Shannon Stakes (1500m)

Dawn Wall is an impressive type which looks set for a big run. The four-year-old mare won the Kembla Grange Classic last season before winning the Gold Bracelet at Gold Coast. Its run for second fresh up at Randwick had plenty of merit and with only 53kg on its back it looks one of the hardest to beat.

Good Project might be getting long in the tooth, but there’s no denying its class. The winner of almost $1.5 million only boxed on behind Deploy in the Theo Marks last start, but it finished second in the Group 1 Railway behind Scales of Justice and that’s top form. On class it should handle this field.

Race 5 tip: Good Project to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 6 – Gloaming Stakes (1800m)

Sanctioned has form around some classy types this campaign and it must be considered. The Cummings-trained colt ran second behind Gold Standard in the Stan Fox Stakes last start and it placed in the Up & Coming Stakes prior to that. This shouldn’t be any harder and it looms as a major contender.

Stablemate Astoria improved significantly to win the Spring Stakes at Newcastle and it also boasts form against some smart types. It ran third behind Addictive Nature in the Ming Dynasty and it scored an easy win at Warwick Farm on debut. Monitor betting moves for both Godolphin runners.

Race 6 tip: Sanctioned to win at Topbetta.com.au

Race 7 – Golden Rose (1400m)

Merchant Navy comes over from Melbourne with an unbeaten record and plenty of talent. The three-year-old colt hasn’t tasted defeat from four starts and it had to dig deep to score last start. The son of Fastnet Rock has drawn perfectly in barrier two to control the pace and it could give them something to run down.

Race favourite Menari has drawn wide in barrier 11 which will cause it to do some work in the run. The talented Gerald Ryan-trained runner was too slick in the Run to the Rose last start and it has more upside than most in this field. $2 is a touch short, but it has the gate speed to cross and it has the talent to win.

Race 7 tip: Menari to win ($2) at Topbetta.com.au

Race 8 – Golden Pendant (1400m)

Punters are at their wits end with Omei Sword, but it’s too talented to leave out. The daughter of High Chaparral made solid ground late in the Sheraco Stakes, but not enough to warrant attention. It’s now third-up since a bleeding attack and it’s now or never for the talented mare.

Bonny O’Reilly has won eight of its 13 starts and it just went too strongly in front last start. The Bjorn Baker-trained daughter of O’Reilly has won four of its five starts on this track and it should lob into a nice position from barrier three. Punters might get a good price here.

Race 8 tip: Bonny O’Reilly to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 9 – BM89 Handicap (1400m)

Wayanka has found some recent form with two wins from its last three starts. The four-year-old won well at Flemington three back before travelling to Sydney and winning on this track last start. It didn’t cross the line first last start, but it won on protest over Interlocuter. It still had merit and it could continue its form.

Zumbelina was well-backed to win last start and it did the job nicely. The daughter of Stratum is unbeaten in four starts on this track and it’s not easy to run down Tango Rain like it did last start. There’s plenty of upside with this runner and it should run close again.

Race 9 tip: Zumbelina to win at Bet365.com
