The Listed Grafton Cup is the featured event on Grafton’s eight-race card on Thursday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst present his best bets and free quaddie tips for the marquee meeting. The card is set to be held on a Soft 6 with the rail in the true position for the entire circuit, and the action is scheduled to get underway at 12:15pm AEST.
Grafton Cup Top Tip: Happy Go Plucky
Coming off an impressive win in the Listed Ipswich Cup on June 19, John Gilmore sends his seven-year-old Happy Go Plucky back to the Grafton Cup having finished sixth in the 2019 edition. His win at Ipswich came when settling three wide without cover before working outside the leader, hitting the front and gripping on in dramatic circumstances. Stephanie Thornton is set to retain the ride, which is a bonus, and with speed drawn inside of her, she should have no issue in getting her mount in the first six with cover early on. With form behind Melbourne Cup favourite Incentivise, Happy Go Plucky will take some beating despite the $19 on offer at online bookmakers.
Grafton Best Bet: Remlamps Gem
Our best bet on the Grafton card comes up in the final event of the day when the Scott Singleton-trained Remlamps Gem steps out. The four-year-old Rubick gelding won at Scone on June 15 when leading all the way and comes to Grafton with three wins from five starts on Soft going. From barrier 12, expect Christian Reith to go forward and settle one off the rail outside the leader. With race fitness on his side, Remlamps Gem should be able to kick clear over the final 200m and send us home a winner.
Grafton Best Value: Tobasco
In the opening event on the card, the John Shelton-trained Tobasco returns to a track he has had plenty of success at during his career. He was a noticeable pre-race drifter prior his third-place finish at the Gold Coast on June 12, but he loves the Grafton 1000m with two wins from three starts over the track and distance. He has three wins to his name on rain-affected ground, so he will handle the going and should take some beating at a nice price.
