Goulburn Racing Club is the place to be on Sunday afternoon with a competitive eight-race card headlined by the $200,000 Goulburn Cup. The rail sits in the true position for the entire circuit, and we’re listed at a Soft 7 for race-day; however, we’re expecting some clearing weather ahead, so we’re hopeful for an upgrade by Sunday afternoon. The first gets underway at 1:25pm AEDT
Goulburn Cup Selection: Baby Rider
We’re going for some value in the Goulburn feature with Baby Rider, a first-up European import for the Bjorn Baker stable. This horse by Gleneagles has some sensational form in the UK and France, running in last year’s Arc De Triomphe behind Torquator Tosso. While he didn’t show his best that day, getting beaten by 13.3 lengths, and his last preparation was disappointing, the Baker team has given Baby Rider two strong trials since arriving here in Australia. If he can replicate any of his European three-year-old form, the $15 with online bookmakers is a huge price on the each-way.

Best Bet at Goulburn: Saveadateforme
Saveadateforme broke his maiden last start at Kembla Grange with an impressive 2.5-length win on October 22, and John O’Shea has seemed to find some nice progression out of this three-year-old colt. This son of Savabeel is third-up, fit, and looks more than ready to tackle this grade of race in Class 2. Also, after two runs at 1400m, the step up in trip to the mile looks a perfect assignment. Look for Chad Schofield to find a midfield sit before letting the down the middle of the track to score nicely. This is one we can follow with trust.

Next Best at Goulburn: Atmospheric Rock
Atmospheric Rock is a gelding by Your Song that looks like breaking his maiden status on Sunday afternoon. We tipped this guy for the Wagga Wagga meeting on Friday, but after he was scratched from that, this still looks a great bet. Atmospheric Rock was very unlucky to be beaten on debut on July 1 at Moruya by 0.5 lengths. He was flying home late and was unfortunate to be snagged late on the post by Sister Moon. This looks a much easier task for this lightly raced three-year-old, and he should only improve based on his trial at Goulburn on October 4. He hit the line well, indicating he has only come back stronger. William Pike gets on as a bonus, and with what looks to be only moderate opposition in this contest, Atmospheric Rock should get over the top his rivals.
