First Race 1:50pm AEDT

Racing heads to Gosford on Tuesday afternoon for a competitive seven-race program commencing at 1:50pm. The track is currently listed as a Soft 5; however, with some drying days ahead we’re thinking there could be a possible upgrade into the Good range. The rail is moved out +3m the entire circuit and we’ll be looking at horses to be positive with a slight on-speed advantage.

Best Bet: First Class Molley

We’ll be looking to kick off the Gosford program with a winner as First Class Molley aims to break her maiden status. She’s had two starts so far in her debut preparation and had excuses both times. Her latest performance at Gosford on February 18 was enormous despite going down as an even-money favourite. She almost jumped too well for jockey Mitchell Bell and over-raced throughout, forcing her three wide with no cover for most of the 1000m journey. She ran into second on raw ability alone and the step up to 1200m looks very ideal for this promising filly. Boy Loves To Run and Cappelletti will be going crazy up on the speed to get the early advantage on the rails, meaning First Class Molley should get the box seat from barrier four. They’ll be going quick enough for key jockey booking Zac Lloyd to get into the clear late and produce this girl’s stunning turn-of-foot to score.

Next Best: Free Enterprise

Free Enterprise looks a very interesting first-starter on Tuesday afternoon for the Peter & Paul Snowden camp, and based on what we’ve seen at the barrier trials, we’re more than happy to pick him. He’s had three official jump-outs for the stable and Chad Schofield took the reins in his latest trial at Randwick on February 6. It was an eye-catching performance that saw Free Enterprise lead throughout to win by a solid margin as well with 3.8 lengths back to second position. He looked to be travelling super and was hardly asked for much of an effort by Schofield, but when he gave a slight push of the button, this guy put his rivals to bed nicely. Obviously, race-day conditions are a whole other beast, but he impressed us and we’re happy to take the price on offer with online bookmakers. He’ll jump, he’ll lead, and he’ll take a lot of chasing down in the short Gosford straight.

Next Best Again: Field Marshal

The Chris Waller stable has picked up a nice type in the form of Field Marshal, formerly with John Thompson, and we think he’s a cracking bet on Tuesday afternoon. In his first-up effort after a 101-day spell, this guy was assigned a very tough task – not so much due to the company, but more so to the track conditions. Hawkesbury on February 14 was subjected to a massive downpour prior and during the 1400m contest, and we think that was the real undoing for this three-year-old colt. He got well back out of his ground and chased home Kiptanui well considering the circumstances. Now, on a much firmer surface with a much more suitable trip for this son of Kingman, we want to be backing him. There’s plenty of speed on the map and from barrier three Regan Bayliss can go find the one-one if he wants it. If he’s in striking distance late, we think the $5.50 with online betting sites will look value heading for home.
