Gosford racing preview

What Gosford Races
Where The Entertainment Grounds – 4 Racecourse Road, West Gosford NSW 2250
When Thursday, February 3, 2022
First Race 1:15pm AEDT

HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst has picked out his top tips and quaddie numbers for the eight-race card at Gosford on Thursday, with odds from Australia’s best bookmakers. The track is rated a Good 4, and the rail is out 2m from the 1100m to the 300m and then true for the remainder of the course. The field for the first race of the day is set to face the starter at 1:15pm AEDT.

Best Bet – Sonic Tycoon

Brad Widdup and Rachel King combine in the fourth race of the afternoon with Gosford winner Sonic Tycoon. The four-year-old gelding has had two starts at this track, winning a Class 1 over 1600m at his second career start. The son of Written Tycoon hasn’t won since that day back in January 2021, but he has been racing in some tougher races, in particularly at metropolitan level behind the likes of Solar Apex, Fiordland and Travest. That form is good enough for Sonic Tycoon to be competitive on Thursday in what can be described as a below-average Benchmark 64. Fifth-up, rock-hard fit and on to a track where he has always performed well looks a winning recipe.

Next Best Bet – Real Peace

In the second leg of the quaddie, Clarry Conners and Tim Clark combine with Real Peace. The four-year-old gelding has contested some decent races in his 17-start career, including a third-placing behind Peltzer in the 2020 Bondi Stakes (1600m). The son of Real Impact has raced four times this campaign, and while he is yet to fire a shot in those, he should find this much more to his liking as he gets outs to 2100m for the first time in his career. As a three-year-old, Real Peace won over 2000m at Hawkesbury in Class 1 company before going to the Group 3 Packer Plate (2000m), where he finished sixth behind the likes of Senor Toba and High Supremacy. The booking of Tim Clark suggests we might see the gelding roll forward and prove hard to catch.

Next BestRace 6 – Real Peace (#1) $5.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value Bet – Native Rock

Peter & Paul Snowden saddle up Native Rock in the opener, where he can be very competitive. The four-year-old son of Wandjina has had eight starts for just the one win and two runner-up performances, including a 2.75-length second behind the talented Way To The Stars at this track on January 14. The gelding is likely to box seat under Tommy Berry from the inside alley, so he should be right there as they turn into the home straight. Although Way To The Stars didn’t quite frank the form at Canterbury on Friday night, he was far from disgraced behind Sky Command and Able Willie. That looks like the right form.

Best ValueRace 1 – Native Rock (#?) $7 with Sportsbet
