Racing heads to Gosford for a seven-race card on Thursday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s New South Wales betting expert has picked out his best bets and top quaddie numbers for the meeting. The track is rated a Heavy 9, and the rail is out 3m from the 1300m to the 300m and then set true for the remainder. Racing is set to get underway at 12:50pm AEST.

Gosford Best Bet: Duchess

Our best bet of the day comes up in the final race on the Gosford card when the Richard & Michael Freedman-trained Duchess steps out over 1100m. The three-year-old More Than Ready filly dominated her rivals over the 1000m at Gosford on June 29, winning by 2.5 lengths in a smart all-the-way victory on a Heavy 10. She strikes similar conditions here on Thursday, and from barrier four Keegan Latham should have no issue in finding the front of the field. Duchess clearly relishes Heavy ground (5:2-0-1), and on Thursday we expect her to make it two straight wins at Gosford.

Best BetRace 7 – Duchess (#3) $3.60 with Sportsbet

Next Best at Gosford: Duke Of Buckingham

Matthew Dunn sends his three-year-old Street Boss gelding Duke Of Buckingham to Gosford on the back of consecutive victories at Hawkesbury. He did his best work late over 1600m at his last start on July 1 and now steps up to 2100m deep into a campaign. In five starts this campaign he is yet to finish outside of the top three, and despite this being his toughest challenge to date, we expect him to make it three wins from as many starts. Rachel King will look to find him a spot in the first four upon settling, and as long as he can see out the 2100m, he looks the one to be with.

Next BestRace 5 – Duke Of Buckingham (#4) $3.30 with Sportsbet

Gosford Value Bet: Smarty Lee

The Chris Waller-trained Smarty Lee comes to Gosford having finished third at Hawkesbury on July 1 after running on nicely from the rear of the field. Despite not really challenging the winner, Amungee, the three-year-old Smart Missile gelding showed enough to suggest he will benefit from stepping up to the 1200m at his third career start. He showed plenty of ability at the trials prior to the start of his career, and if he brings similar form to Gosford on Thursday, he could take some holding out.

Best ValueRace 3 – Smarty Lee (#3) $9 with Sportsbet
