The Listed Gosford Guineas is one of the feature races at Gosford on Tuesday. Run over 1200m for $150,000, a quality field of 12 has been assembled. Topped by Forbidden Love, the likes of Malkovich, The Face and Aim add some great intrigue. Race favourites Forbidden Love and Malkovich look the leaders in the race, with Belieber, The Face and Marsannary likely to push forward from the deep.
The Freedman’s classy filly Forbidden Love lines up here in her first run this prep en route to the Magic Millions Guineas. The filly by All Too Hard ran third in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington at the end of last campaign, and gets in here with just 55kg. Drawn barrier 9, she should settle outside the leader or at least trailing the speedy Malkovich. James McDonald will ride her here, and should do everything right to ensure she takes out the Guineas.
Malkovich has a likeable race pattern; jumping and running. The three-year-old son of Choisir is looking to make it three straight wins in what is his toughest test to date. Drawn low in barrier 3 under Rachel King, he’ll find the front, make it a genuine sprint and will take some serious reeling in. He has never been at 1200m and has to carry the top weight, albeit 56kg which will make it a task for him against a quality filly.
Giovanna Run has only the one win to her name from five starts, but that did come in good fashion against multiple Group 1 winning filly, Montefilia. Drawn the rails under Kathy O’Hara, she’ll find herself in a midfield spot, on the back of what is likely to be a genuine tempo. Chris Waller gets his horses fit for their first up assignments, and this case is no different after she won a trial in style a fortnight ago. She’ll be the one coming out of the pack late.
