Gosford race betting preview – February 24, 2021
Seven metropolitan races will be run and won at Gosford on Wednesday. The track is a Soft 7, the rail is out just the +3m for the entire course, and the first field will face the starter at 2:20pm local time. Here are the latest odds and best bets on offer at Australia’s top online bookmakers.
Best Bet: Flexible
Rachel King had a day to remember on Saturday with four winners at Rosehill, and we believe she can strike again in the last at Gosford on Wednesday when she combines once more with Flexible. The James Cummings-trained prospect has won two of her four starts, going from a 3YO Fillies Maiden to a Benchmark 72 in her last two races and winning comfortably in both. Cummings has clearly taken his time with the Hallowed Crown filly and will continue to progress her through the grades before a potential Oaks tilt as she rises to 1600m. She is full of class and should win again.
Race 7 – Flexible (#8)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1362162_07]
Next Best: Castel Sant’angelo
Castel Sant’angelo was there for a long way last time out at Warwick Farm but just faded late to finish third and three lengths behind La Grisa, who he meets again here. Up an extra 400m to the 2600m and meeting La Grisa 2.5kg better off at the weights, Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott’s Pierro gelding can make it a genuine staying test and pinch it as they swing for home. From barrier seven he maps to get an uncontested lead so he can dictate terms and prove too tough. The wet track should not be an issue and he will be much fitter second up.
Race 4 – Castel Sant’angelo (#2)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1362162_04]
Best Value: Oblique
Oblique was a heavily backed commodity on his debut at the Sunshine Coast and just got too far out of his ground before rattling home late to go down by just under two lengths. The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained two-year-old has had the ultimate gear change since his debut and returned with two runner-up efforts at the trials. Now first up over the 1000m at Gosford, he should be fit from his trials and will get a nice cart into the race from barrier eight under Jason Collett. While the short straight may not be his go, he should still be too good.
