Ascot Betting Preview – Friday, April 02
Good Friday racing is set to take place at Ascot this afternoon where a nine race card will have the attention of most of the racing fans around the country. The track has come up a Good 4 with the rail in the true position the entire circuit, as the track hosts its first of two meetings in 24 hours over the Easter long weekend. The Listed Comrade Stakes and the Jericho Cup Qualifier are the featured events on the card, with racing set to get underway at 12:20pm AWST.
Best Bet: Dig Deep
Our best bet comes up in the Listed Comrade Stakes where the Daniel & Ben Pearce-trained Dig Deep looks hard to beat in the feature race on the card. With Group 1 winner Trap For Fools set to make this a genuinely run 1600m event, Dig Deep draws perfectly from barrier one to sit on the heels of the leader throughout the race and will be there to pounce when the opportunity arises. With a 5.5kg weight advantage over Trap For Fools, Dig Deep will be on his heels throughout the running with Clint Johnston-Porter sticking on board after an impressive win in the Listed Grandstand Cup on March 20. He meets the runner up from that race here 0.5kg better off at the weights and certainly looks hard to hold out in the Comrade Stakes on the back of a perfect steer.

Next Best: Queen Takes King
In the Jericho Cup qualifier it is no surprise to see the Lindsey Smith-trained Queen Takes King as the favourite for the 2200m event. Despite needing to lug 59kg in the event, and giving away 4kg to a key market rival, the form Queen Takes King has shown this campaign suggests she will be hard to hold out at a nice price. From barrier 11 under Brad Rawiller, we expect the pair to settle towards the rear of the field and with a nice cart into the race they look hard to go past. Her key market rivals are expected to settle in the second half of the field as well, yet the turn of foot Queen Takes King can produce is something the likes of Final Chill and The Escort will not be able to match.
Race 7 – Queen Takes King (#2)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1364988_07]
Best Value: Proceeds Of Crime
It is crazy to think that we are with Proceeds Of Crime after he broke through for his maiden victory at start 15 last time out. Despite never finishing better than fourth in his career prior to that, the win at Pinjarra on April 18 showed a change of tactics that had the My Admiration gelding settling closer to the speed than usual which paid dividends. Proceeds Of Crime has drawn barrier three for his third up run this campaign, and should not be far from the speed throughout in similar circumstances to his last start. Surprisingly, he looks well placed to bring up consecutive wins for the first time in his career at a nice each-way price.
