Wednesday racing tips for Gold Coast

Wednesday will see the first metropolitan race day in December run at the Gold Coast’s Aquis Park. Eight races will be run and won, with the first field of the day set to face the starter at 1:13pm local time. The track is rated a Good 4, and the rail is out just +1m from the 1000m to the 400m and set true for the remainder.

Best BetRace 2 – Brannigan (#6) Get the best odds

Chris Munce and Larry Cassidy combine with what looks a promising gelding in Brannigan. The three-year-old son of Rich Enuff has had just three starts, placing in two of them, including a two-length second to Excel In The Sun last time out. He no doubt would have come on from that first-up run and should be better for the three-week let up. He was a good trial winner at Eagle Farm prior to that, so we expect him to bring that to the races on Wednesday. He has drawn out in barrier 11, but his natural race pattern to date has seen him settle at the back, and there looks enough speed in the race to set it up for him. This appears much easier than the race he was scratched out of on Friday night at the Sunshine Coast, and we expect him to win it.

Next BestRace 1 – The Ritz (#3) Get the best odds

We made The Ritz a special at Ballina when he made his debut a fortnight ago, and he was backed off the map and won impressively by 2.75 lengths hard held. He drops 2kg off that performance, stays at 1400m and is drawn ideally in the centre of what is a small but talented field. Jimmy Orman sticks with him and will likely box seat from barrier three, with speed drawn the rails and directly outside of him. If The Ritz reproduces what he did at Ballina, he will be seriously hard to beat here.

Best ValueRace 6 – North Afrika (#4) Get the best odds

North Afrika became many a punter’s favourite after he strung four wins together in North Queensland during the Winter Carnival. Having had three runs in this time and a trial between his last race and this one, he should be rock-hard fit as he goes up to a much more suitable 1800m. Ryan Wiggins stays aboard, which is great given that he knows the horse very well, and looks set up to go forward and dictate terms from barrier four. On a dry, tight-turning track, North Afrika can make every post a winner and prove too hard to catch.
