Global Glamour flies the field to win the Light Fingers stakes

SUPERSTAR filly Global Glamour has overcome a wide gate to take out the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes after surviving a late surge from the fast-finishing Foxplay.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained favourite – which was crunched in from $3.50 to $1.90 at Sportsbet.com.au – had to expend a lot of energy to clear the field, and jockey Joshua Parr decided to kick on and pinch the race from the front.

The three-year-old looked to have the race won at the 200 metres, but Chris Waller-trained Foxplay (which returned $2.50 the place at WilliamHill.com.au) found a path down the outside late to fly home, but failed to get win in the photo.

Spright found a path late to return $2.20 at Crownbet.com.au.

The race team nominated Global Glamour for both the Apollo Stakes and the Light Fingers Stakes for the Randwick card, but the team decided against putting the filly up against Winx.

Trainer Adrian Bott said the team wanted to ‘do the right thing by her’ by putting Global Glamour in the Light Fingers Stakes especially after another Chris Waller runner Omei Sword was scratched.

“Look, it would be exciting and good for racing to take on Winx, but it might not be in the filly’s best interests just yet.” Bott said.

“We just want to do the right thing by her with the end goal in mind.”

It was a gritty win for Global Glamour, but the racing team believes this is just the beginning of what could be a coronation for the three-year-old filly.

Bott believes the autumn is theirs for the taking.

“She is right on target for hopefully what’s a big autumn for us. We are probably looking at the Surround next and then the Coolmore and Queen Of The Turf.”
