Geelong racing tips & quaddie picks – Thursday, 1 October 2020

Long Jack

A rare Thursday meeting at Geelong greets us with an eight-race card starting at 1:30pm AEST on a track that has come up a Soft 7. A fine spring day is on the forecast, and an upgrade may come early in the meeting if it stays that way.

The rail is out 9m from the 1700-800m mark and then out 10m the remainder of the circuit, so it may pay to be up on speed in what could be a tricky day for backmarkers.

Thursday racing tips for Geelong

Best BetRace 1 – Kenzan Get the best odds

The extra 600m for this Danny O’Brien-trained gelding looks ideal after he hit the line quite encouragingly at Sandown three weeks back when finishing fourth. He drops back from city class to a country maiden and looks primed to break his duck in the opener at Geelong. With Damien Oliver on board from barrier five, he maps to settle midfield in the running line. That may prove the difference after he was forced to the back of the field in both career runs to date.

Next BestRace 5 – Frankie Pinot Get the best odds

Frankie Pinot got the maiden out of the way when he crossed the border to Morphettville three weeks back and scored quite convincingly despite being held up until the 250m mark, where he barged through and drew clear over the concluding stages. The drop out of city racing seems ideal here, and if his two runs back are anything to go by, he will prove hard to hold out. He maps perfectly from barrier two, as Luke Currie should be able to get on the back of the leaders as they did in Adelaide last time out.

Best ValueRace 7 – Ringfort Get the best odds

Mick Price and Michael Dee team up in the penultimate race on the card, where they will be hoping for a better run in transit with this 4YO mare this time round. She seemed to race quite keenly in the early stages of her last go at Geelong, but her run two starts back at Donald shows she is more than capable of taking this out. From barrier nine, she maps to be up on speed and may sit outside the leader as she did at Donald. From there, we are hoping she can take up the running in the home straight and give a nice kick.
