Geelong Racecourse is scheduled to host an eight-race card on Wednesday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian horse racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers with top odds from Australia’s leading online bookmakers. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail returns to the true position, and racing is set to kick off at 3pm AEDT.

Geelong Best Bet – Pilote

We do not need to wait too long for our best bet on Wednesday as the Kevin Corstens-trained Pilote looks to go one better than his narrow second at Sandown on November 17. On a day where it was beneficial to be up on speed, his effort from the rear of the field was one of the better performances of the day, and if he brings something similar here, he should prove too hard to hold out. Pilote had the reputation of being a wet-tracker, but his dominant win at Ballarat two starts back on a Good 3 showed he is more than that. From barrier six in the small field of six, he should not be too far from the speed throughout over 2200m. With a sharp turn of foot, it is hard to see how this son of Pierro gets beaten.

Next Best Bet at Geelong – Storm’s Colours

The way the Anthony Chibnall-trained Storm’s Colours returned to form with a dominant win at Kilmore on November 21 suggests he will be hard to beat here. Having settled midfield on the back of a hot speed, this son of Fighting Sun managed to run on strongly and ended up putting two lengths on his closest rival. He draws barrier three on Wednesday and is set to gain a suck run in transit with Dean Holland sticking on board. With an abundance of early speed in the field, he should get the race run to his liking so he can finish right over the top of his rivals once again.

Next BestRace 6 – Storm’s Colours (#2) $5.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value Bet at Geelong – Starden Lass

We’ll be hoping to bookend the program when the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Starden Lass steps out over 1300m. Having been beaten under a length when finishing fourth at Pakenham on November 11, this Denman mare looks like she will take a power of beating at a nice price. Sig Positano, who finished second in that race, has since come out and won impressively to frank the form. From barrier seven, John Allen will need a touch of luck early in gaining cover, but if Starden Lass is afforded that, then she looks the one to be with here.

Best ValueRace 8 – Starden Lass (#3) $8 with Sportsbet
