Gear Change For Miss Hipstar In Millions

Trainer Kelly Schweida is hoping a significant weight swing and a gear change will enable Miss Hipstar to turn the tables on Swift Witness in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Miss Hipstar was left trailing in the wake of Swift Witness when she finished third, beaten nearly four lengths, to the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained filly in the Gold Pearl Quality (1100m) at the Gold Coast last Saturday.

On that occasion Miss Hipstar also had the burden of topweight of 58kg, conceding four kilograms to Swift Witness, but meets that filly on level weights in the Millions.

Schweida has also removed the winkers and added a visor to the gear of Miss Hipstar who will be ridden by Larry Cassidy.

“She found the line pretty good last weekend and meets the winner four kilos better at the weights this time,” Schweida said.

“I’ve taken the winkers off and put a visor on just to try and eat into that margin she put on us the other day.”

Schweida believes the visor may help Miss Hipstar begin better in the Millions after she was tardy at the start of the Gold Pearl.

“She was a bit slow out with the winkers and I thought the visor would help her to see the other horses when she breaks from the gates,” he said.

“I felt a bit sick after the barrier draw when she came up with 19 but she deserves to take her place in the race.”

Swift Witness was having her first start in blinkers in the Gold Pearl and has taken over favouritism for the Millions as a $3.90 favourite with TAB fixed odds from She’s All Class ($4.20).
