First Race 12:25pm ACDT

The Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club is the scene for Saturday’s metropolitan meeting in South Australia and Horsebetting’s tipping expert presents his best bets, top odds and free quaddie picks. The track has come up a Good 4, with the rail out 3m from the 800m-400m, with the meeting commencing at 12:25pm ACDT (12:55pm AEDT).

Best Bet at Gawler – Ichibansan

We were with the Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained Ichibansan at Morphettville on December 26, where he managed to bring up a hat trick of wins. We think he can build on that picket fence as our best bet at Gawler. He got the win by the barest of margins on that day, but with winning form on his side and his want to get out over further, the 2106m on Saturday looks perfect. From barrier four, Jason Holder will look to have this four-year-old son of Dissident in a stalking position and when asked for an effort, Ichibansan should have too much class for some of these who are struggling to find the winning post.

Next Best at Gawler – Dominus

The Phillip Stokes-trained Dominus was a dominant winner at over the Gawler 1200m on December 18 and we think he can make it consecutive wins at the track and distance on Saturday. He put three lengths on his closest rival on that day and following Garry Lo’s 2kg claim, he is set to go around with 60.5kg on his back once again. The five-year-old son of Iffraaj gained the run of the race last time out and from barrier two is set to gain a similar run in transit on Saturday. If Dominus brings a similar turn of foot to what he showed three weeks ago, then he looks to be one of the best bets at Gawler.

Best Value at Gawler – Frankel Star

In the final race of the day, we will be hoping the Matthew Sayers-trained Frankel Star can break a string of minor placings and pick up a deserved win. He was narrowly beaten at the Gawler 1500m on December 18, when beaten a half-length by Getouttheway who he meets once again on Friday. The six-year-old son of Frankel tends to do his best racing when settled close to the speed and from barrier seven, we anticipate Anna Jordsjo will have him settled in the first four. He has two wins from seven starts at Gawler and if he brings his recent form to this BM60 affair, then Frankel Star should be too hard to beat at a nice price with the top online bookmakers.
