Gawler Races 23rd January Horse Betting Preview
Gawler is the place to be for metropolitan racing in South Australia when the track hosts a nine race card on Saturday afternoon. With a scorching summer’s day, the Soft 5 did not stick around for very long and a Good 4 is the going. With the rail out 3m the entire circuit, we should not see any distinct advantage in regards to settling positions, which makes for a great day of racing.

Gawler Best Bet: Race 5 #2 Taken Off @ $2.10
Phillip Stokes and Kayla Crowther will be looking to continue the good form they have had recently with Taken Off by securing another victory following his dominant win over the Gawler 1200m on January 2. He gave the tearaway leader a near 6 length start and managed to bolt past and demolish his rivals in fine fashion. The step back to 1100m should not do him and disfavours, and with a small field of eight engaged here he should be too speedy over the concluding stages with a slick turn of foot.

Gawler Next Best: Race 4 #6 La Richesse @ $2.70
In a small field of seven tactics will be crucially important for all runners involved. That is why we have settled on the Will Clarken trained La Richesse, who maps to be the leader of the race. From barrier one Lachie Neindorf should have no issues in getting the mare to the front of the field, and with his 2kg claim they look hard to catch. Her first up win at Murray Bridge on January 9 was as good as anyone could have hoped for when an all the way winner by nearly two and a half lengths. She drops 4.5kgs off that effort for his run here, and considering all four of her career wins have come on dry ground they look to be one of the best bets on the Gawler card.

Gawler Best Value: Race 8 #5 Olive Grove @ 16.00
Three starts back, the Aimee Bush trained Olive Grove got his head down on the line over the Gawler 1100m. He has since had two runs over the same track and distance and has had next to no luck in both of those runs. The near four length defeat he copped on January 2 looks worse on paper than what it actually was and with Jacob Opperman’s 3kg claim for this effort they look to be a big chance at big odds. From barrier one they will need a bit of luck as he is not blessed with early pace, but if he can get to the outside early on in the home straight he could take some holding out.
