The Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club is scheduled to host a rare metropolitan meeting on Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s South Australian form analyst presents his best bets and free quaddie numbers for the day. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is in the true position, and the first on nine races is set to jump at 12:22pm ACDT (12:52pm AEDT).

Best Bet at Gawler – Our Deep Agenda

We were with the Jon O’Connor-trained Our Deep Agenda at Morphettville on December 4 when he managed to bring up a third successive win, and he looks well placed on Saturday to extend his streak to four. Angus Chung sticks on board, and his 3kg claim will see the son of Deep Field go around with just 56.5kg on his back. From barrier seven, look for Chung to take up a positive position and try to have Our Deep Agenda settled in the one-one. If he is afforded that luxury, then four wins in a row could simply be a formality.

Next Best at Gawler – Eyes Never Lie

One of our better bets of the day comes up in the opening event when the Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained Eyes Never Lie steps out over 1100m. The three-year-old Mint Lane filly has managed to win three of her six career starts, including last time out at Morphettville on December 18. On that occasion, she managed to take a sit off a genuine tempo in the small field of six and then picked off vulnerable leaders late on. She returns to the Gawler 1100m, a track and distance where she broke her maiden earlier in the year. From barrier seven, we expect to see Jason Holder have her settled close to last, and with the likes of Brazen Boy set to give her a genuine tempo throughout, the race should be run to her liking. She needs to lug 60kg, but if she can handle the big weight, then Eyes Never Lie should be good enough to make it three wins from four starts this time in.

Best Value at Gawler – Spanish Heirloom

Spanish Heirloom may be known as a Port Lincoln specialist, but we think she can bring up a win at Gawler at the first time of asking. The Travis Doudle-trained mare out of Barbados simply got no luck last time out at Morphettville on November 20 when settling no better than four wide with no cover. Prior to that, she had strung together successive all-the-way wins at Port Lincoln and did so when lugging a big weight. She gets in with 51kg on Saturday following Ben Price’s claim, and from barrier eight we expect to see her take up the running. If Price lets a fast horse be a fast horse, then Spanish Heirloom is will take some catching in the opening leg of the quaddie.
