Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club are set to host a nine-race card on Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s South Australian racing expert presents his best bets and quaddie numbers with top odds from Australia’s best bookies. The meeting is set to be held on a Soft 5 with the rail in the true position throughout, and the first race is set to jump at 11:31am local time.
Gawler Best Bet: Not Usual Glorious
Our best bet at Gawler comes up in the last race of the day when the Travis Doudle-trained Not Usual Glorious steps out over 2100m. The four-year-old gelding made it four wins in succession when saluting at Morphettville in dominant fashion, winning by almost three lengths. The field he meets here is no harder than what he beat last time out, and Melissa Julius’ 3kg claim gets them in with 59.5kg once again. From barrier six, we expect Julius to look for cover close to the speed, where she can then time her run on the gelding to perfection. With even luck, Not Usual Glorious should be making it five wins in a row and four wins from as many starts in Australia.

Next Best at Gawler: Maha
In the second leg of the quaddie, the Tony McEvoy-trained Maha is clearly one of the better bets on the Gawler having been narrowly beaten in the Listed A.R. Creswick Stakes at Flemington on June 19. Having led the field up, the three-year-old Pride Of Dubai filly was nabbed late in the piece to finish fourth, beaten by under a half-length in a bunched finish. This is her first run in South Australia since April 2020, and from barrier two Barend Vorster should not have any issue in finding the front, dictating terms and kicking clear in the home straight to give this filly a deserved victory.
Race 7 – Maha (#10)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1374051_07]
Best Value at Gawler: France’s Boy
The John Hickmott-trained France’s Boy returns to South Australia following credible efforts in Victoria at his last two starts. The seven-year-old gelding finished midfield in the Swan Hill Cup at his last start, but his effort two runs back at Flemington suggests he could take some beating. France’s Boy managed to finish a length away from Mongolian Marshall, who subsequently came out and beat the impressive Dice Roll at his next start in Listed company. From barrier two, Todd Pannell should lob him into a favourable position just off the leaders’ heels, and with even luck he should be getting back into the winner’s stall.
