Gatton full form & tips for Friday, January 12
RACING in Queensland is at Gatton on Friday as the south east centre hosts a seven race card.

Race 1 – Maiden (860m)

Foxy Bella comes into this race on the back of a great trial and we think it can win on debut. The only two runners in the ten horse field have no form to write home about, and we think Foxy Bella has the ability to win at the first attempt.

Race 2 – Maiden Plate (1100m)

Pundit should spear out and lead from gate one virtually uncontested. The other speed in the race comes from far out wide, so we think our elect can lead cheaply and pinch this one from the front.

Race 3 – Class 2 (1600m)

Over The Venture is looking to overturn a four race stretch where it has finished runner-up. The horse has finished less than a combined four lengths off the winner and in higher grades than this. Over The Venture should be winning this race.

Race 4 – Handicap (860m)

Destined For War is third-up where it has won previously. The horse won brilliantly upon resumption before failing as an even-money favourite on November 25. The horse returns after the short lay off and will be ready to perform.

Race 5 – Benchmark 58 (1100m)

Alastriona has placed in back-to-back events since resuming on December 2 and despite not having a great third-up record we think it can win this race. In a race where a lot of horses will look to lead we believe Alastriona can camp back then finish over the top of them.

Race 6 – Benchmark 65 (2000m)

Stratalena rises sharply in grade here but it will benefit from carrying less weight than the more fancied runners in this field. The horse has a win at benchmark 55 level two starts back and only just missed out last-start by a nose on December 16. Stratalena is worth a look at odds.

Race 7 – Benchmark 58 (1400m)

Tycoon Layla can go back-to-back from gate three. While last-start’s win was a maiden, which took 13 starts to break, the horse looks to have the ability to go on with the job.
