Gawler race betting preview – Monday, April 05

An Easter Monday at Gawler seems perfect after a Group 1 weekend of racing, as a big nine race card is set to be run and won in South Australia. With the track rated a Good 4 and the rail in the true position throughout the entire circuit on a day where fancied runners should have no excuses. Racing is set to get underway at 12:10pm ACST.

Best Bet: #12 Point Blaze

Shayne Cahill will saddle up Point Blaze on Monday afternoon after the Shamus Award was a good thing licked at Morphettville on March 13. Having been bereft of space at crucial times in the home straight on that occasion and when she finally saw clear air over the final furlong she absolutely flew home to just miss. From barrier five under riding from Kayla Crowther, we expect Point Blaze to settle just off the heels of the leaders at Gawler, but this time with a bit more luck be savaging the line and breaking her maiden to bring up a deserved win at her seventh start.

Best BetRace 3 – Point Blaze (#12) $1.50 with Sportsbet

Next Best: #6 African Awesome

African Awesome flew home at Strathalbyn on March 24 to just miss out on bringing up his second win of his career. The son of Fiorente was one of the widest when cornering on that day and despite making up plenty of ground off the eventual winner, he missed by just half a length. From barrier seven and with Jason Holder back on board we suspect the step up to BM62 will only benefit him.On the back of a genuine tempo set by the likes of Regal Domain and Harbouring he should be flying home and looks to have the sharpest turn of foot in the race to bring up his second win.

Next BestRace 5 – African Awesome (#6) $5.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value: #10 Confinement

Confinement had been knocking the door down in terms of breaking her maiden, and the Shylie Williams-trained runner got the maiden win out of the way at Port Lincoln on March 14. Having settled in the second half of the field, and being the widest runner at the turn it took a sharp turn of foot for Confinement to get up and she did so in impressive fashion. From barrier 11 we expect her to settle towards the rear of the field at Gawler, and with a similar performance here on Monday there is no reason why she can not make it back to back victories.

Best ValueRace 6 – Confinement (#10) $27.00 with Sportsbet
