Gai Waterhouse promoted to Legend Status in Racing Hall Of Fame
Australia’s first lady of the turf, Gai Waterhouse AO is set to make history as she joins her late father, the great Tommy Smith in receiving the highest possible accolade being elevated to Legend Status at the Australian Racing Hall of Fame ceremony.
In a life dedicated to racing spanning 50 years, respected trainer Clarry Conners will be inducted as one of the greats of the racing industry, honouring four wins in the Golden Slippers, three VRC Oaks, and back-to-back Triple Crowns amongst his remarkable achievements.
Western Australia’s own Robert (Bob) Peters will be recognised for his lifetime of service to racing, breeding and racing administration. Not only instrumental on multiple WA Turf Club committees, Bob Peters served WA at the Australian Principal Clubs Conferences for the best part of two decades whilst establishing one of the great breeding and racing empires in Australia’s Thoroughbred world.
The outstanding riding career of jockey Frank Treen Snr will also be celebrated on the night and his induction into to the Australian Racing Hall of Fame will be among the nights’ highest honours.
In the Thoroughbred category, the racing feats of Champion horses Baguette, Emancipation and Miss Andretti will be celebrated, their success gone but not forgotten, with each horse a worthy recipient of the accolade.
To top off the night, the newly introduced “Australian Spirit of Racing” award will be bestowed upon WA’s Rod Kemp for his dedication to racing as both jockey and mentor with a riding legacy of 11 Group 1’s and multiple majors to his name.
