2021 Futurity Stakes betting preview
The Futurity Stakes kick starts the quaddie at Caulfield on Saturday and is the first of three Group 1 races on Blue Diamond Stakes Day. The field of 10 have Group 1 wins between them, so this looks to be a strong form race as we progress in the Autumn Carnival. Streets Of Avalon (#2), the 2020 Futurity Stakes winner, will attempt to defend his crown following a win in the CF Orr Stakes a fortnight ago. The speed in the race looks to come from the rank outsider Too Close The Sun (#5), with Crosshaven (#10) and Streets Of Avalon (#2) not too far away in the running either.
The win by Probabeel (#7) in the Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes on February 6 was full of arrogance and suggested she has bigger fish to fry this campaign. She drew barrier 11 in the Geoffrey Bellmaine and gets gate nine here. A fortnight ago she was trapped three wide with no cover, but she could find a little bit more luck in a smaller field this Saturday. She is a classy mare and looks hard to go past with Damien Lane retaining the ride. The race looks set up perfectly for the backmarkers, so good luck holding her out.
Behemoth (#1) and Ole Kirk (#8) both returned with impressive performances, and both come to Melbourne for the first time this campaign. The pair absolutely eat up this track, with both claiming Group 1 titles in the spring at Caulfield. Both will be making their runs from the back of the field with the red-hot tempo set by the likes of Too Close The Sun (#5).
Streets Of Avalon (#2) is not to be dismissed either. As we learnt a fortnight ago in the CF Orr, it is well worth following Group 1-winning form at Caulfield. The race on paper looks to be set up for those towards the rear of the field, but Streets Of Avalon will not be far from the front throughout and cannot be dismissed.
