Trainer Anthony Freedman has Queensland Oaks aspirations for Sunshine Coast winner Cabierro.

Victorian trainer Anthony Freedman has unveiled a couple of Brisbane winter carnival contenders at the low-key Sunshine Coast meeting.

Cabierro stamped herself as a Queensland Oaks contender with her win in Sunday’s 1600m-Class One while Japanese import A Shin Rook made an impressive Australian debut to win a Class Four Handicap over 1400m by three lengths carrying 59kg.

“We elected to send her up to Queensland early with a view towards the Oaks” Freedman said on his website.

“She was a little disappointing at the Sunshine Coast two weeks ago but she got well back and it was hard to make ground.

“It was a good ride by Michael (Cahill) today. He got her in a lovely position and it was pleasing to see an improved effort by the filly.

“She will head to The Roses next. Being by Pierro I think she will enjoy the 2000 metres and the 2200 metres of the Oaks”.

The Roses (2000m) is at Doomben on May 12 and Freedman says Cabierro is likely to be joined by stablemate Coral Coast who finished seventh in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet at Doomben on Saturday.

Nominations for the Group One races over the Brisbane winter carnival close on Tuesday.
