Free racing tips & value bets for Silver Shadow Stakes 2020

Thermosphere
Godolphin’s Thermosphere will be one of several classy fillies on show in Saturday’s Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick.

Saturday’s Group 2 Darley Silver Shadow at Randwick sees a number of quality three-year-old fillies resuming as they look to set up campaigns towards the Golden Rose, Flight Stakes, Thousand Guineas and VRC Oaks. Jean Dubois’ See You Soon heads the market from Dame Giselle and Redoute’s Image. Kaakit Akit will look to control the race from the outside alley, while September Run shouldn’t be far behind.

Saturday racing tips for 2020 Silver Shadow Stakes

Best Bet
Thermosphere @ $9.50 Neds

James Cummings saddles up the progressive Thermosphere, who looks ready for a solid spring after creeping under the radar in the autumn. She goes around here as a $9.50 chance, and that quote reeks of value. She was absolutely luckless on debut when fourth behind Prague and clocked the best last 200m of the race. She had no fortune again at her next start but flew home to record the quickest final 400m and lose by only a head. She went on to win her next two starts, with one of those being the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes, and could’ve been undefeated heading into the Golden Slipper, where she only beat two runners home. First up over 1100m on Saturday, she finds herself in a race that should suit her. Drawn in barrier three, Kerrin McEvoy should be relatively positive and put her two or three pairs back in the run to get her into the clear to avoid traffic. She’s one we are keen to back now and probably later in the spring.

Next Best
See You Soon @ $3.40 Neds

See You Soon is clearly the one to beat after a very handy first campaign. She kicked off her racing career in style with a great win in the Kirkham Stakes and has since placed in the Golden Gift, Riesling Stakes and Percy Sykes. She tends to go great guns first up with a win and a second (2:1-1-0). The Siyouni filly has had just the one trial coming into this under Sam Clipperton, who takes his first race ride on the filly here. Drawn the rails, she’ll be midfield in the run and could get bottled up on the fence. She’s the class of the field, no doubt, but will need some luck and maybe one more run before we are really keen on her.

Best Value
Kaakit Akit @ $11 Neds

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s Kaakit Akit could pinch it from the front in a race that looks to have only the one leader. She has had just the two runs to date, producing a scintillating all-the-way win on debut over Tommy Gold before failing behind Thermosphere in the Magic Night Stakes. She’s been back to the trials with a win and a placing, so she should be rock-hard fit for her first-up task. She’s drawn barrier 10 of 10, which could pose some problems, but looks to have plenty of natural gate speed to get across them and lead. With front-riding master Tim Clark aboard, Kaakit Akit’s credentials are only strengthened. Look for her to find the rails and take some serious catching.
