Free betting tips for Randwick races – Saturday, 15 August 2020

Man Of Peace

Plenty of the big guns are back for their spring campaigns this Saturday at Royal Randwick. The track is rated a Heavy 9, which is fast becoming the standard for weekend Sydney meetings. The rail goes out 11m from the 1600m to the winning post and 8m for the remainder of the course, so we can be prepared to see leaders get away with blue murder. Race 1 will jump at 11:55am AEST.

Saturday racing tips for Royal Randwick

Best Bet
Race 3 – Masked Crusader @ $1.50 Neds

This looks a put-in, take-out job with the exciting return of Team Hawkes’ Masked Crusader. The four-year-old gelding by Toronado was a back-to-back victor in his last prep, winning impressively at Bendigo before justifying the very short quote at this track over 1200m in May to get home by three lengths. Tommy Berry takes the ride from barrier four and should put him right in the race. The plan is to get a slot in the TAB Everest, so we can expect to see him fully wound up for his first-up assignment here. Down on the minimum weight, he should be too good for these and go on to stamp himself as a Group 1 hopeful.

Next Best
Race 9 – Off Shaw @ $5 Neds

Former Kiwi galloper Off Shaw has now had three runs in Australia, which include two wins on the trot in his most recent outings. Both wins came on heavy tracks when he has either led or sat outside the leader over 1400m. He gets almost identical conditions here in a race where he will look to lead on his ear. Unbeaten on heavy tracks in three starts, he will relish the conditions again. Glyn Schofield, who is in a rare vein of form, has partnered the gelding in both runs this time in and will get all the favours from barrier four. In his first-up win he had to carry 61kg in 64 grade before coming to town to win a BM78 with just 55.5kg. He stays at 78 grade here and rises to 58kg, which is the only knock we have on him.

Best Value
Race 2 – Northern Wilderose @ $10 Neds

The TAB Highways are always wide-open affairs that tend to produce rough results, and we hope we have found the right one here. Northern Wilderose has had two goes on heavy going and won at Coffs Harbour before running third last start in a Highway at this course behind Saturday’s race favourite, Niccirose. Drawn in barrier five, apprentice Ceejay Graham claims 3kg and is likely to push forward and lead on the five-year-old mare in a bid to make every post a winner. She has only missed the places once over 1200m from seven starts (7:2-2-2) and will be hoping to continue that good record here. If speed maps are anything to go by, she should have the lead to herself unless Niccirose kicks up from the rails draw. At $10, we are happy to have something each way on Norther Wilderose.
