Flying Missile Aims For Karrakatta Plate

Flying Missile has catapulted herself into Karrakatta Plate calculations when scoring a runaway first win at Ascot on Wednesday.

Justifying red-hot favouritism, Flying Missile easily accounted for her six rivals in the Glenroy Chaff Plate (1100m) by three lengths.

Ridden by Chris Parnham, the Cable Bay filly made a brilliant beginning from barrier two and was never headed after taking up the lead.

She kicked clear and extended her margin inside the final 100m, defeating Plemont with Rising Commodity holding third place.

Racing fresh off a trial, she improved her record to one win and three placings from four starts

Flying Missile adds to trainer Neville Parnham’s depth in the Karrakatta Plate with Ultimate and Storm Whisper rated top chances.

Parnham heaped praise on Flying Missile and said she presented his best opportunity of adding to his Karrakatta Plate record.

“I was very confident she would win,” Parnham said.

“She will go straight to the Karrakatta now and she will be making her presence felt.

“I think she is the best of my two-year-olds.

“She is very speedy and has a will to win as well.

“She doesn’t give up and that will hold her in good stead.

“The Karrakatta Plate is shaping as the barriers being very important.

“If she draws a barrier I’m sure she will be there for a long way.

“I’m not worried about the 1200m, while she is speedy, she can run it right out. I’m confident about that.”

Flying Missile’s price for next week’s Group 2 Karrakatta Plate, Perth’s richest race for juveniles, was slashed from +2000 to +700 following the win.

She sits behind Hoi An (+600), Storm Whisper (+600) and Pat’s Got Sass (+550).

Chris Parnham, who later scored a double aboard Kaptain Kaos, said Flying Missile had more improvement to come.

“She was very impressive and we’ve always had an opinion of her,” Parnham said.

“She’s been luckless in some of her races but came here today (Wednesday) and won well.

“I think she will improve a lot from that run.”
