Feature Race Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap – Race 8

A nine-race card is scheduled for Flemington on Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian form analyst presents his best bets and quaddie selections with odds from Australia’s top bookies. The track is rated a Soft 6 with the rail out 10m for the entire circuit, and the meeting is set to get underway at 12:05pm AEST.

Aurie’s Star Top Tip: Sirius Suspect

The Group 3 Aurie’s Star over 1200m is the featured event on Saturday afternoon, and we expect the Saab Hasan-trained Sirius Suspect to be too good for this field. The seven-year-old son of Wanted is a Flemington 1200m specialist who has won three times from seven starts at the track and distance, including the Group 3 Standish Handicap on January 1 this year. Despite being a maiden when first-up, he finished only a head away from The Astrologist in the Listed MSS Security Sprint in his opening run last campaign and will face his rival once again here 1.5kg better at the weights. Damien Oliver will look to lead the field up, and Sirius Suspect could prove hard to catch if he is screwed down for this event.

Aurie’s StarRace 8 – Sirius Suspect (#11) $9 with Sportsbet

Flemington Best Bet: Hosier

Our best bet on Saturday comes up when the Robert Hickmott-trained Hosier attempts to make it four wins in succession to begin his Australian career. The four-year-old son of Camelot will look to find the rails and dictate terms, as he has in all three starts this campaign for a combined winning margin of 13 lengths. It is safe to say we haven’t seen the best of Hosier yet as he is yet to be tested in the run, but he is clearly a horse with above-average ability and should continue his rise through the grades with another win this weekend.

Best BetRace 7 – Hosier (#7) $1.90 with Sportsbet

Next Best at Flemington: Lindhout

The Enver Jusufovic-trained Lindhout will be looking to right the wrongs from her last-start third on July 17. She simply got too far out of her ground on that occasion, and through no fault of apprentice Carleen Hefel, but senior jockey Craig Newitt hops back on board and should have this five-year-old mare right there when the whips are cracking. She has a sharp turn of foot, as shown in her win two starts back over this track and distance, and if she brings a similar effort on Saturday, she should be too hard to hold out with a sustained run from the back of the field.

Next BestRace 4 – Lindhout (#7) $2.70 with Ladbrokes

Best Value at Flemington: Coolth

In the final race on the Flemington card, the Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained Coolth offers a great sight at odds in his first run back from a spell. He has a first-up win to his name already, and if the five-year-old Dundeel gelding brings his best to the Flemington mile, he should be too good for this lot. Will Price takes the ride and claims 1.5kg, meaning Coolth will go around with just 53kg on his back. With a genuine tempo expected, expect to see him savaging the line late and proving too hard to hold out.

Best ValueRace 9 – Coolth (#12) $9 with Sportsbet
