Saturday racing tips for Flemington

Victorian racing returns to headquarters at Flemington on Saturday with nine races set down for judgement on what looks to be a perfect summer’s day. The rail is out to the 10m mark for the meeting, but it shouldn’t hamper any runners’ chances considering we are racing on a Good 4. It’s Living Legends Day, where the industry will honour some of the champions of the turf. The first at Flemington is set to jump at 12:55pm AEDT.

Best BetRace 7 – Bandersnatch (#1) $3.70 with Sportsbet

This four-year-old gelding won in convincing style a fortnight ago in his first-up run at Moonee Valley. He raced keenly in the early stages of that run and will need to settle better for this assignment, but he has won second up in the past and looks a big chance again under in-form apprentice Will Price. From barrier one, Bandersnatch should race a lot closer to the speed this time and will be hard to go past.

Next BestRace 4 – Tralee Rose (#5) $3.40 with Sportsbet

Having put together a hat-trick of wins, including one in the opening event on Oaks Day, Tralee Rose returns to Flemington in career-best form. She looked to be vulnerable for the taking over the concluding stages at Sandown a fortnight ago but found a second wind to hold out her rivals. The Symon Wilde-trained mare steps up to the 2500m for just the second time in her career, but she looks more capable of handling the distance than she did back in May when contesting the SA Fillies Classic. She maps to settle just off the leaders’ heels from barrier two and should prove hard to hold out.

Best ValueRace 6 – Comte (#2) $12 with Sportsbet

Amy and Ash Yargi saddle up Comte, who is coming off a 1.5-length fifth last time out at The Valley when chasing home our best bet of the day, Bandersnatch. The five-year-old gelding had to settle basically in another postcode when travelling four wide with no cover, but he wasn’t beaten far. Teo Nugent will need to go towards the rear of the field from the wide barrier, but the form this campaign suggests this one should be fighting out the finish at big odds.
