Flemington tips for January 16

What Moonee Valley Races
Where Flemington Racecourse, 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington VIC 3031
When Saturday, January 16, 2021
First Race 1:43pm AEDT

Flemington is headlined by the $140,000 Listed Kensington Stakes (1000m) on Saturday, with the nine race card expected to take place under cloudy skies. The Autumn Carnival is looming, and many horses running at Flemington have their eyes on bigger prizes, which means we should be in for a competitive day of racing. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is out 9m.

The first at Flemington is set to face the starter at 1:43pm AEDT.

Best Bet: Race 5 #7 Heavenly Emperor @ $2.70

The Stephen Brown and Jamie Kah combination proved to be a winning one in the final race on January 2 at Caulfield when Heavenly Emperor did enough to get the job done as favourite. He’s an on-pace galloper who doesn’t know how to give up and from barrier nine Kah may opt to settle him outside the leader for this assignment. With not much early speed here they should have no issues getting a cart across the field and considering he already has two wins from four starts over the Flemington mile, he should prove hard to run down.

Best BetRace 5 – Heavenly Empire (#7) $2.70 with sportsbet

Next Best: Race 2 #3 Hasseltoff @ $2.90

Robbie Griffiths and Jamie Kah will be hoping for a repeat performance from Hasseltoff who absolutely bolted in at his last start by almost three lengths over the Flemington 1700m on January 1. From barrier three, Kah will look to settle her mount in a prominent position as she did on New Year’s Day. If given a bit of luck with turning they will prove hard to hold out early on in the day. Hasseltoff is yet to run outside of the Quinella in both of his starts at Flemington and we’re backing him to add another victory. You should be able to get around the $3 quote with top racing bookmakers.

Next BestRace 2 – Hasseltoff (#3) $2.90 with sportsbet

Best Value: Race 8 #5 Re Edit @ $7.50

It’s hard to imagine you can get over $7 for the Chris Waller trained mare, Re Edit considering her form so far this campaign. She has two runner up performances to go with an impressive victory at Moonee Valley on November 28. She’s a galloper who goes through the gears at her own speed and considering Damien Oliver has had success aboard before we’re backing the combination to bring some value to the Flemington quaddie in the third leg.

Value BetRace 8 – Re Edit (#5) $7.50 with sportsbet
