Flemington racing preview – January 29, 2021

Rapid Racing, City vs Country, Sheedy vs Pagan – it is a jam-packed afternoon of racing at Flemington this Friday. All seven races are down the Flemington straight, ranging from 1000m to 1200m, while the regional team format will give the jockeys plenty of incentive. The track has come up a Good 4, while the +12m rail setting should not have too much of an impact for straight racing. The first on Friday afternoon at Flemington is set to jump at 3:30pm AEDT.

Best Bet: Japery

Coming off an utterly dominant performance over the 1100m at Flemington on January 16, the Patrick Payne-trained Japery looks the best play on the Flemington card. Despite the wide barrier, we expect Dean Holland to get the gelding to the front of the field and stay there. The three-year-old is arguably racing in career-best form and is rock-hard fit coming into his fifth run this campaign. Look for him to up the tempo at the 400m mark and prove too quick for them in the third leg of the quaddie.

Best BetRace 6 – Japery (#11) $4.80 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Deep Dive

Resuming for the Anthony Freedman stable, we think Deep Dive has what it takes to get the job done at a nice price. During the winter he strung together two dominant on-pace victories at Geelong and then Morphettville. His last run before heading for a spell was a complete forgive at Sandown, so he’ll be looking to bounce back first up here. This will be his first crack down the Flemington straight, but considering he has won when resuming in the past and will be up on pace throughout, he looks hard to go past.

Next BestRace 3 – Deep Dive (#3) $5.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Dynamic Duo

The Tony Noonan-trained Dynamic Duo returns to Melbourne following a confidence-building winter campaign in Queensland, where he strung together consecutive victories at the Gold Coast before a midfield finish at Eagle Farm prior to a spell. He comes back to Melbourne for a first-up run over 1100m and gets the services of Jamie Kah for the first time. The four-year-old gelding looks set to run a big race in the opening leg of the quaddie.

Best ValueRace 4 – Dynamic Duo (#2) $9 with Sportsbet
