HorseBetting’s Victorian racing analyst brings you his betting tips and quaddie numbers for the nine-race card at Flemington on Saturday. The track is rated a Good 4 with the rail out 8m for the entire circuit, which historically has seen the course play fairly throughout the day. The first race is set to jump at 11:40am AEST.

Best Bet: Chief Altony

The Alexander Rae-trained Chief Altony returns to Flemington following a dominant four-length victory at Ballarat on May 19. Having finished outside of the top three on just one occasion from 11 career starts, he is the clear best bet on the program. His lone “failure” when running fourth was at Flemington, but he is clearly a horse working his way through the grades. From barrier seven, expect Mark Zahra to find him cover just worse than midfield, and with a sharp turn of foot he should be too good for this BM78 field over the concluding stages of 1400m.

Best BetRace 3 – Chief Altony (#3) $2.60 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Reuber

The Cindy Alderson-trained Reuber consistently runs strong races but keeps running into one better on the day. Last time out over the Flemington 2000m he ran into Horrifying, who nabbed him on the finishing line and has since proven competitive in the Group 1 Queensland Derby. With form behind the smart Liqueuro as well, he looks to be the one to follow in the second leg of the quaddie. From barrier 11, Craig Newitt will look to find cover around midfield, and if he is afforded a bit of luck, the three-year-old gelding should prove to be too strong late.

Next Best BetRace 7 – Reuber (#3) $3.70 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Michigan

We have been with the Mike Moroney-trained Michigan at both his starts this campaign, and he has rewarded us on each occasion. Those wins highlighted the three-year-old gelding’s versatility, as he settled up on speed in one and took cover in the running for the other. The in-form Damian Lane hops on board for the first time, and from barrier 11 we expect him to settle the son of Written Tycoon close to the speed. Having not finished outside of the top two in his first four career starts, Michigan has plenty of untapped talent and should run a strong race on his Flemington debut.

Best ValueRace 6 – Michigan (#5) $8 with Sportsbet
