Fifty Stars set for Sydney debut in Ajax

Emerging galloper Fifty Stars will be out to confirm Doncaster Mile plans in the Ajax Stakes.

Exciting four-year-old Fifty Stars will showcase his Doncaster Mile credentials when he makes a Sydney debut in the Ajax Stakes at Rosehill.

Fifty Stars took his record to seven wins from just 11 starts with the biggest victory of his career to date in the Group Two Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington 12 days ago.

The Blamey was Fifty Stars’ second outing since being transferred to the Lindsay Park stable from the now-disqualified Darren Weir.

Lindsay Park co-trainer Tom Dabernig indicated the Doncaster Mile was on the radar for Fifty Stars, who could earn a ballot exemption with victory in Saturday’s Group Two Ajax (1500m).

Fifty Stars, who has been allocated 50kg for the Doncaster, is currently equal 25th in the ballot with a field limit of 20 plus four emergencies.

The winner of the Ajax is exempt from ballot and penalty for the $3 million race on April 6.

Rain is forecast in Sydney but Fifty Stars has won on good, soft and heavy tracks coming through the grades.

“He was great in the Blamey, and he has actually got wet track form,” Dabernig said.

“This looks a nice race for him and he could be Doncaster-bound if he won.

“He’s a pretty straight-forward horse. He has been up there for about 10 days and his final bit of work was good.”

Fifty Stars is on the fourth line of betting at $15 in a current Doncaster market, the same price as Toorak Handicap winner Land Of Plenty who was just shading him for Ajax Stakes favouritism on Thursday.
