Eye Liner Stakes 2020 racing tips & value bets
The Listed Eye Liner Stakes over 1200m is the feature sprint on a nine-race card at Ipswich this weekend. A field of 14 has been assembled for what looks a very open race on paper. There will be a stack of speed on, so look for back markers finishing over the top. Boomsara and Mr Bellagio share the top of the market, with Deep Image and Pennino also in single figures. The track is rated a Soft 5, with the rail in the true position.

Pennino @ $5.50 Sportsbet
We are sticking with Pennino in a race that looks to be run to suit. Drawn in barrier eight under Jim Byrne, she should land in a lovely spot behind the speed and finish strongly over the top of them. She is coming off a third placing at Eagle Farm behind Jami Lady, which controlled the race in front and made it very hard for Pennino to finish off. She is a four-time winner at six furlongs and will appreciate the give in the ground. We expect her to be right in this.
Boomsara @ $4.20 Sportsbet
Boomsara returned to the races with a good fourth at Grafton in the Ramornie Handicap, where he led the field only to be beaten 1.5 lengths by Signore Fox. The Spirit Of Boom gelding should strip much fitter for this second-up assignment and is drawn well in gate five. The booking of Brad Stewart is a big one, in our opinion, as he should get the best out of the four-year-old. He’ll no doubt be sent forward, which is a big query given how much speed looks to be in the race, but his first-up run was encouraging going into this.
Winter Passage @ $27 Sportsbet
Winter Passage is the value in the race, after Stuart Kendrick elected to scratch her from the Rockhampton Newmarket in preference for this. She was a winner first up at her home track and has since run fairly at the Gold Coast and Eagle Farm on dry tracks. She should be peaking fourth up and if the track stays soft, we can bet with more confidence given she has never missed a place on rain-affected going in nine starts. Tegan Harrison will find herself towards the tail from gate four and should finish off very strongly.
