Ellerslie tips

RACING at Ellerslie is back for the second day of the Christmas carnival and we have free tips, form and odds for all the feature racing.

Boxing day was a big success for the club and the eight races this Friday have produced big betting fields, which suits all levels of punters.

It will be a popular day for punters on both sides of the Tasman as there could be one or two runners venture over to Australia next year.

Race 1 – Maiden Handicap (1200m)

Below Zero ran credibly for fourth on debut at Ellerslie and it could provide punters with some value in the opening race.

The Peter and Dawn Williams-trained filly has drawn the inside barrier and bookmakers should be offering a good each way price.

Race 2 – Maiden Handicap (1200m)

Sheezanicegirl is on debut for Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott and it’s bred to be good early.

The two-year-old by Power is from a good family of sprinters and it should be well-supported in a field of only six runners.

Race 3 – Maiden Plate (1600m)

Vaudesir is an extremely consistent type which is shooting for five consecutive minor placings.

The four-year-old has placed in both starts at Ellerslie which is always a good sign and its placing behind My Dakota last start is a good form guide for this.

Race 4 – BM65 Handicap (1200m)

Bombard got ridden upside down last start and the natural leader should appreciate the track conditions at Ellerslie.

Trained by Stephen McKee, the talented sprinter has faced the likes of Prom Queen this season and that form stacks up nicely here.

Race 5 – BM85 Handicap (1200m)

Selfie has been tough to follow this campaign with five starts for three placings, but it’s long overdue a win.

The Richard Collett-trained runner continues to run against top opposition and this looks like a much easier target.

Race 6 – BM85 Handicap (1600m)

Grazia has won and placed twice this season down south, but that form should translate well up in the north at Ellerslie.

From the in-form Te Akau stables, the middle distance runner has been running good times this season and we’re expecting another solid effort at each way odds.

Race 7 – BM65 Handicap (1400m)

Howboutdat has been an unlucky runner this campaign and we think it would appreciate the rider change, but Jenny and Bob Vance are persisting with their daughter Maija.

Despite the experience rider, the five-year-old has been running good races without getting much luck and that could all change this Friday.

Race 7 tip: Howboutdat to win at Neds.com.au

Race 8 – BM65 Handicap (2100m)

Savapak is a good battling type and it could pay good each way odds in this.

The Stephen Marsh-trained son of Savabeel finished fifth at Te Rapa last start and it hasn’t finished further back than fifth in all 10 career starts.

Race 8 tip: Savapak to win at Sportsbet.com.au
