Echuca Horse Racing Betting Preview – Thursday, 31 December
A small seven race card at Echuca helps punters countdown to midnight on Thursday for New Year’s Eve, and albeit a small card, there looks to be a few good plays to help round out your 2020 on the punt on a high. With a warm summer’s day forecast for Echuca on Thursday, and the track already coming up a Good 4, we’re expecting an upgrade to a Good 3 early on in the meeting. With the rail in the true position throughout, it sets up a perfect afternoon of racing in Echuca.
The first on New Year’s Eve is set to jump at 12:50pm AEDT.
The Archie Alexander trained Blue Smartie was a well supported favourite on debut at Geelong three weeks ago and had to settle for a third place finish, beaten by just over a length. You would think with natural improvement, the three-year-old filly would be hard to beat under similar conditions here. She stays at the 1200m for her second career start, and from the wide barrier, Neil Farley will look to settle her midfield, and with a touch of luck when entering the long home straight at Echuca she will take a power of holding out.

Daniel McCarthy will be hoping his three-year-old gelding Lunar Hero can go one better after a competitive second up run at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago. He had to chase home a genuine pacemaker but couldn’t bridge the gap throughout the concluding stages, but he did manage to keep a decent gap on his other rivals in the running. With the services of Daniel Stackhouse on board for the first time, the combination should be able to get to the front of the field and dictate terms throughout the race. With a quiet time up in front, the pair will be extremely hard to catch.

In the opening leg of the Echuca quaddie, we are siding with the Kym Hann trained Swing With Junior who has returned from a spell in fine order over the past month. The filly maps to get across the front of the field from the wide barrier, and as long as she does not get trapped out wide she should be fighting out the finish and bring up her second win in three starts this campaign.
