Best Golden Rose bookmakers

The following bookmakers all offer betting on the Group 1 Golden Rose.

Golden Rose top early tip – Menari

Menari “The Ferrari” is our top early betting tip for two reasons. It’s not only the quickest horse in the field, but we’re expecting its current odds to drop on race day.

The Gerald Ryan-trained three-year-old is currently topping the market at $2.40 with Sportsbet.com.au, but the public money will come late and we’re expecting to get offered around $2 on the day with bookies.

The Snitzel colt has won three of its seven starts to date and it looked particularly impressive last start in The Run to the Rose last start. It settled on the speed before quickly putting a couple of lengths on the chasers which included Pariah.

Pariah is currently on the second line of betting at $6.50, but it’s hard to see the Snowden-trained runner turning the tables on Menari.

There were some concerning signs last season for Menari, especially when it finished 10th in the Group 1 Inglis Sires’, but its form this time around has been spectacular and the improved conditions have worked wonders for the talented colt.

Both runs this time in have been on good tracks and with sunny weather predicted throughout the week, conditions are going to suit Menari perfectly.

Golden Rose early value tip – Chauffeur

Chauffeur is a quality colt for Team Hawkes which has been looking for 1400m after two satisfactory runs at shorter distances this season.

The $1.6 million sales purchase has won only one of its eight starts, but the Snitzel colt has produced some quality performances and rising back up in distance on a good track will help it greatly.

Its only other run at this distance came in the Inglis Sires’ on a heavy track, but that came in the wrong conditions and at the end of a lengthy campaign which also included the Golden Slipper.

It’s going to get back in the run and hope there is strong pace up front, which there should be from the likes of Merchant Navy and Menari. It flashed home to run second in the San Domenico Stakes behind Pariah and that form should stack up well here.

Currently $17 with Sportsbet and that’s a good value price.

Golden Rose upset chance – Alizee

It hasn’t been confirmed whether Alizee will head to the Golden Rose, but it’s an upset chance if it does.

The James Cummings-trained filly by Sepoy scored a quality win on Saturday in the Tea Rose Stakes and it looks like a nice up-and-coming type for Godolphin.

It settled just in behind the speed set by Champagne Cuddles before finding unleashing a big sprint when clear in the straight. It was strong to the line which is a good sign and it could be one of the more improved horses this spring.

If it can a sweet run in transit then the $26 looks like a nice price and it should pay around $4 in the place markets.
