Eagle Farm will play host to eight races on Thursday afternoon. The track is a soft 5, and the rail is out +10m for the entire circumference of the course. Race 1 will face the starter at 1:45pm.
BEST BET – Race 6 Neminaah (#3)
Edward O’Rourke and Jake Bayliss combine in the sixth with up & coming stayer Nemingah. The son of Nom Du Jeu burst onto the scene with a strong win in the Grafton Cup Prelude in June and ran a cracking fourth at odds in the Cup a week later. He resumed in good fashion at Doomben a fortnight ago, running second over a mile but was unable to reel in the leader and eventual winner. Out to 1800m, second-up and with a bit of sting out of the ground, he should be too strong for what is a decent field.

Next Best – Race 1 Northern Knight (#2)
Seven-year-old gelding Northern Knight can be winning the opening race of the day in a race where he should just stalk the speed. Favourite and likely leader, Boyles ran second to Northern Knight at Coffs Harbour six weeks ago and was no match at all, finishing 5.5L off him. Northern Knight meets him 2kg better off here which is a huge advantage given how well Boyles has been going since, which includes a TAB Highway victory at Randwick on the Kensington track. Northern Knight’s most recent run came behind Katy’s Daughter who is no slouch, in a race where he was beaten by the track pattern. With even luck, he wins this again.

Best Value – Race 8 Two Smokin Barrels (#4)
While $5 (with the top Australian bookmakers) isn’t a great deal of value, we are surprised to see this last-start winner open at this price. The Ben Ahrens-trained four-year-old gelding was a 6L winner at Doomben a fortnight ago when leading all the way to break his maiden in style. Drawn barrier 1 here under a great front running rider in Ryan Wiggins, he’ll bounce on the bunny and should be able to hold the fence and the lead. With the rail out 10m, it may play with an advantage to those on speed as well, which will only boost his winning credentials. This looks a great way to round out the card.
