Eagle Farm betting preview – Feburary 20, 2021
Eagle Farm will play host to nine metropolitan races this Saturday. Small fields are the order of the afternoon, with a number of trainers boycotting the track due to the state of the surface. Rain around Brisbane all week should see a bit of give in the ground, although the track was still considered a Good 4 on Thursday afternoon. The rail is in the +6.5m position and the first race is set to jump at 12:42pm.
Best Bet: Kylease
Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted saddle up last-start winner Kylease in a 1000m Open Handicap. Formerly trained in Sydney, the five-year-old mare has won two of her three runs in the Sunshine State, with Stephanie Thornton partnering her in all three starts. She was too slick for them at the Sunshine Coast three weeks ago when she led all the way to claim a half-length victory, and she should get a similar set up on Saturday. From barrier three, she will go straight to the front and should be hard to run down.
Race 5 – Kylease (#3)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1361792_05]
Next Best: Pull Anchor
Tony Gollan and Ryan Maloney combine in the fourth with Pull Anchor. The four-year-old mare was a well-backed favourite at the Sunshine Coast last time out but just peaked on her run late in the 1400m affair. The drop back to 1200m, where she has only missed the place once, should see her much more competitive. She has raced well at Eagle Farm in the past and can handle a soft track, so she will take some beating. Barrier five should have her midfield with cover and finishing over the top of them.
Race 4 – Pull Anchor (#8)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1361792_04]
Best Value: The Cullinan
The Cullinan is enjoying a purple patch of form, putting together a brilliant win and a placing in his last two runs. The grey gelding railed through to win his maiden at this track on January 21 and then backed up nine days later to rattle home into third behind Way Beyond and Highlights at the Sunshine Coast in his first run at the mile. Leah Kilner has a good partnership with the three-year-old and claims 3kg, which will see him in with 53kg. Drawn in barrier nine, he is likely to get back again but should finish strongly. He can upset them.
