Eagle Farm tips, best bets and quaddie selections for May 5

What Eagle Farm Races
Where Eagle Farm Racecourse – 230 Lancaster Rd, Ascot QLD 4007
When Wednesday, May 5, 2021
First Race 12:28pm AEST

Eight metropolitan races will be run and won at Eagle Farm on Wednesday after a successful Queensland Guineas meeting on Saturday. The track played evenly on the weekend, and with the rail moving out a further 4.5m to the 9m position for the entire circumference of the course, we expect the fence to be the favourable spot. The track is rated a Soft 5 at the time of writing, but another day of sunshine should bring it towards a Good 4 for Wednesday. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best bets, latest odds and top quaddie numbers for the meeting, which is set to jump at 12:28pm AEST.

Best Bet: See Marie

Desleigh Forster’s See Marie begins her campaign towards the Queensland Oaks on Wednesday in what looks a winnable race for the three-year-old filly. After staking her claim for the Group 1 feature during the summer, she trialled nicely in preparation for her resumption when winning the 1200m Open Trial by three-quarters of a length. The Sebring filly won second-up last campaign when defeating Good Soize, who turned the tables in the Eagle Way Quality over 1820m on December 12. The 1600m first-up should be a good place to start, and the inside alley under the in-form Jim Byrne should give her every chance.

Best BetRace 8 – See Marie (#5) $4.20 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Dune Forty Five

We had high hopes that Dune Forty Five would win for us at a massive price one day, and while that never happened, Tony Haydon did sneak him down the M3 to the Gold Coast for a convincing first-up victory on April 24. That win came over 1400m, and we have no doubt that this three-year-old is a natural stayer, so the 1845m will be his bread and butter. The maiden victory came in the form of a hands-and-heels steer to win by four lengths, and while this is tougher and he has drawn wide in barrier 12, he should still get plenty to suit. The gelded son of Americain has come back a better animal this time in, and we are confident he can go on with it towards the Queensland Derby in just under four weeks’ time.

Next BestRace 5 – Dune Forty Five (#7) $7.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Yesmeena

Yesmeena is the sort of runner that could have either opened at even money or snuck under the radar at double figures in this 1200m Fillies & Mares Maiden. It is the latter this time, and that could give us a nice bank booster in the opener at Eagle Farm. The Kris Lees-trained three-year-old was sent around as a $19 chance at Scone last start and arguably should have won after copping a bump from the eventual winner when they went for the same run at the top of the straight. She ended up missing by 0.85 lengths over the 1100m trip, so up to 1200m is going to suit this grey filly perfectly. Andrew Mallyon will do the riding from barrier four, so we should expect to see her midfield or better in the run and letting down with her strong burst in the final furlong. The $10 quote is super value.

Best ValueRace 1 – Yesmeena (#5) $10 with Sportsbet
