Eagle Farm betting preview – March 20, 2021

Nine metropolitan races will be run at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday. After a week of consistent rain in the river city, the track is likely to start in the Soft range and is currently rated a Soft 5. The rail will be out +2.5m for the entire circumference of the course. HorseBetting.com.au will bring you the best bets, best value and quadrella selections for the feature Queensland meeting, which kicks off at 12:18pm.

Best Bet: Ventura Ocean

Kris Lees and Andrew Mallyon have a good partnership together in Queensland, especially when combining with Australian Bloodstock-owned horses, as we have seen with Ventura Ocean, Wren’s Day and Snitzari in recent weeks. They combined with this five-year-old European gelding in his Australian debut four weeks ago at this track over 1200m where they defeated Wren’s Day who has since come out and won comfortably, franking the form. The soft track should not be an issue, given that quite often we see the imports handle Australian soft tracks despite having no exposed form on them, and he has won at 1400m at Newmarket so that should not slow him up either. Drawn out wide in barrier 13, Mallyon will look to cross the face of the field and put the son of Raven’s Pass in the one-one, giving him every chance to remain undefeated on our shores.

Next Best: Word For Word

Another handy Queensland combination is Chris Waller and Luke Dittman and they combine again with Word For Word. The daughter of So You Think was a heavily backed favourite at the Sunshine Coast’s metropolitan meeting three weeks ago and she seemingly had every chance but just failed to run down a smart one in Wolf Moon. That pair streeted the rest of the field by three lengths, suggesting that they could both go on with it from there, and now she pops up in a very winnable race. Drawn barrier 11, the five-year-old mare will be sent forward and she should find cover given the other speed influences are drawn outside of her. She has placed seven times over the mile without winning, so that is some query, but she never gets beaten far. She can go one better in this.

Next BestRace 9 – Word For Word (#11) $3.20 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Miss Got

It is a fairly tricky card on Saturday with multiple winning chances in the same races, so we are siding with this two-year-old filly who is an absurd price. The Tom Button-trained daughter of Pride of Dubai was first past the post at Eagle Farm three weeks ago but had the win stripped off her in a questionable protest. She was well backed that day and started a $4.40 second favourite. This is unquestionably a tougher race, but the horse that beat her on protest, Kenny Boy, is an $8 chance, so with the price discrepancy we will be playing Miss Got. She will get a nice run into the race from barrier nine under Tiff Brooker and can be chiming in at the right time. The stable is flying too!

Best ValueRace 4 – Miss Got (#9) $26 with Sportsbet
